I had always been curious and I was interested in what the person could be doing on the side toilet room. As quietly as possible, I went to investigate. The voice was that of a man who seemed to be reading out loud from a storybook.
He read with gusto and passion; his voice would rise when he came across an exciting part, then go down again when it became boring or angsty. But just like all good stories, he did not end on a cliff-hanger but left it at an optimistic point so you wanted more!
I did not interrupt the man, and he finished reading his story without me.
I would never know what he was reading from, but I knew that it must have been a wonderful story.
After a few moments, I ask him politely, “What were you reading?”
“I was just finishing up a story I read to my son some time ago,” he said. His voice had changed considerably from the passionate one of before and now sounded weary and tired.
He has been trying to finish it for his daughter, but she doesn’t seem interested in hearing him anymore. He told me that he would have liked if someone came by every once in a while so they could spend time together with him while sharing something special: stories.”
While listening to what he had to say, I felt sad that this man didn’t have anyone who cared enough about him or wanted to be around him anymore because there is nothing better than spending quality time with your loved ones – especially when they are older.
He also told me that he would have liked for someone to come by every once in a while so they could spend time with him and read something special: stories.”
I didn’t know how I should respond, but then suddenly an idea came into my head. “Maybe you can tell your daughter about the story?” He seemed surprised at first but he quickly smiled and nodded his approval before going back inside.
“Yes,” he said enthusiastically, “perhaps she will be interested now!”
I hope one day people will realize what is truly important in life: love and connection with others! 🙂
Nice quote. Loved it.
